In P.7 we recieved the sacrament of Confirmation in February and it was very special. Afterwards we decided that we wanted to show that we were using our new gifts from the Holy Spirit. We decided that we wanted to donate some of our Confirmation money to charity! We have been watching and listening to the news all around us and the impact that the war in Ukraine is having on its people made us really sad. We want to help!
We have been in touch with a local Scout leader, who left Derry earlier this week. He is spending time helping Ukrainian refugees on the Polish border who have been displaced by this awful war. He arrived with supplies gathered locally, is helping out where he can, and is shuttling refugees from border camps to airports. He will be returning to Ireland with 4 passengers. Irish Ferries have kindly offered free passage to them. The Irish Red Cross has been in touch to sort out temporary homes for them.
Mr Kelly let us know that he is working with an Irish doctor who is on the Polish border at the moment. She informed him that they have everything other than food, and sent a list of necessities. They feed 100,000 people at her camp every day. Food supplies are low. He has been fundraising and collecting funds to buy these foods and to help pay for fuel as he transports refugees. We really wanted to help this effort with our cake sale and get the money right to where it needs to be to help these men, women and children.
We can now announce that together we have raised £365!!!!!!!!! Congratulations to Luke P.7 and Olivia P.3 for winning our raffle too!
