Dental Denial! A focus on dental hygiene
Within P.5 our topic is "Mighty Me" we have been focusing on the following:
- Goals for the year ahead
- Healthy eating
- Leading a healthy lifestyle
We have been considering changes in our lives and one area of change is in the need for us to take more responsibility for our own health.
Today we were talking about how important our teeth are to us and what we can do to look after them as we grow up.
- The importance of cleaning, brushing and flossing our teeth
- The effect that sugar has on our teeth
- The damage that sugar can cause to our teeth
To see the affect sugar can have on our teeth we carried out an experiment on eggs using 5 different liquids.
- Orange juice
- Coke
- Water
- Milk
- Vinegar.
We then placed five hard boiled eggs into cups . The children discussed the liquids in front of them and discussed in their groups what liquid they think will be the worst for their teeth.
We were very surprised and had a lot of fun carrying out this experiment.
Next week we will be looking at how many tea spoons of sugar are in our favourite drinks!
